A limited access to innovative solutions can present a major barrier for many SMEs looking to engage in circular economy measures — there is a frequent gulf between solutions trialled within a research context, and those available to businesses.
Similarly, researchers can encounter difficulty finding companies to help them test potential innovations at scale. The Yorkshire Circular Lab launched the Circular Projects Database , which will collect project ideas from across the region. These will be shared with universities across Yorkshire so that they can link organisations with all types of university support, including undergraduate dissertations, project placements, and consultancy and research projects to create real and tangible benefits.

The Group has recently commissioned the Yorkshire Circular Lab to deliver two collaborative workshops to help shape the development of a Circular Economy strategy and work programme for the region. The mashing, fermenting, distilling, maturation and bottling of Cooper King whisky will all happen on site, creating an authentic whisky influenced by our Yorkshire surroundings and inspired by experiences in Tasmania.
